Ingredients

  • 1 large head of broccoli about 1 pound
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice added after cooking
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Prep your broccoli by cutting it into evenly-sized florets about 1.5 inches in size. Try to make them similar in size so they cook at the same rate. Don’t discard the stems – peel and slice them into rounds for extra value!
  • Wash and thoroughly dry your broccoli. This is crucial – excess moisture will prevent proper crisping in the air fryer.
  • Place broccoli in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Toss until each piece is lightly but completely coated.
  • Add your seasonings (garlic powder, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using) and toss again until evenly distributed.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 2 minutes if your model requires it.
  • Arrange broccoli in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd – cook in batches if necessary for the crispiest results.
  • Cook for 6 minutes, then shake the basket or flip the broccoli with tongs.
  • Continue cooking for 4-5 more minutes until the edges are crispy and slightly browned, and the stems are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and immediately drizzle with fresh lemon juice and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
  • Serve hot for the best texture and flavor experience.

Notes

  • For maximum crispiness, don’t overcrowd your air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • The cooking time may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model. Start checking at 8 minutes total if your model runs hot.
  • For a dairy-free option, nutritional yeast makes an excellent substitute for Parmesan cheese.
  • This recipe doubles easily, but remember to cook in batches for best results.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to restore some crispiness.
