Ingredients

  • 2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1/3 cup toffee bits
  • 4-5 apples sliced (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala work beautifully)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice for tossing with apple slices to prevent browning
  • Graham crackers or cinnamon pita chips optional, for dipping

Instructions

  • Prepare the cream cheese base: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer until completely smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl frequently to ensure no lumps remain.
  • Add sweetness and flavor: Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to the cream cheese. Beat on medium speed until fully incorporated and the mixture is light and smooth.
  • Create your serving vessel: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into your serving dish, creating a slightly raised rim around the edges to contain the caramel topping.
  • Add the caramel layer: Pour the caramel sauce over the cream cheese layer, gently spreading it to create an even layer. Allow some to drip down the sides for a visually appealing presentation.
  • Finish with texture: Sprinkle the toffee bits evenly across the top of the caramel layer.
  • Chill thoroughly: Cover the dip without touching the surface and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 24 hours) to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to set.
  • Prepare apple slices: Just before serving, slice the apples and toss them in lemon juice to prevent browning. Arrange them around the dip along with any additional dippers like graham crackers or cinnamon pita chips.

Notes

  • For the smoothest texture, ensure your cream cheese is fully softened before mixing. Leave it out for at least 1 hour before beginning.
  • This dip can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and kept refrigerated—just add the fresh apple slices right before serving.
  • For a more intense caramel flavor, try using a salted caramel sauce.
  • The dip travels well for potlucks if you keep it chilled. Consider bringing sliced apples in a separate container with a small amount of lemon water to prevent browning.
  • If you can’t find toffee bits, chopped Heath bars or a crushed Skor bar make excellent substitutes.
