Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets 6 oz each, skin-on or skinless
  • 2 tablespoons white miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 small garlic clove minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
  • Cooking spray or oil mister

Instructions

  • Prepare the salmon by patting it dry with paper towels. This crucial step ensures the glaze adheres well and helps achieve that perfect exterior texture.
  • Make the miso glaze by combining miso paste, maple syrup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth and well incorporated.
  • Coat the salmon generously with the miso mixture, ensuring all sides are covered. For the best flavor, allow it to marinate for 5-10 minutes if time permits.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 3 minutes. This ensures the salmon starts cooking immediately when placed inside.
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with a thin layer of oil to prevent sticking.
  • Place the salmon in the air fryer basket, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets, making sure the pieces don’t touch each other.
  • Cook for 7-10 minutes depending on thickness and desired doneness. For medium salmon, cook until the internal temperature reaches 125-130°F. There’s no need to flip the fish during cooking.
  • Check for doneness by gently inserting a fork into the thickest part – it should flake easily but still look moist.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving for added flavor and visual appeal.

Notes

  • If using frozen salmon, thaw completely in the refrigerator before cooking for even results.
  • The cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of your salmon fillets. Start checking at the 7-minute mark for thinner pieces.
  • White miso paste provides a milder flavor, but you can substitute yellow or red miso for a stronger taste.
  • This glaze works wonderfully with other fish like cod or sea bass if salmon isn’t available.
  • For meal prep, make extra glaze and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week to use on quick weeknight dinners.
